Grub & Vine by Chef Matt Manning serves refined bistro-style fare, in a relaxed, contemporary space. Grub & Vine’s seasonal menu changes regularly and the wine list features some of South Africa’s most respected producers.

Our menu offerings range from our seasonal tasting menu to our winter special menu. Our wine list is made up of small batch producers, special vintages and even some unique imports from France. Like our menu, the wine list changes frequently. Keize and Chef Matt work hard on keeping the list balanced and exciting. Therefore we do not allow BYOB.

Matt cut his teeth in London’s Michelin-starred kitchens under the likes of Marcus Wareing, Bryn Williams - and locally, at La Colombe - Matt opened Grub & Vine in December 2018 with his desire to serve good honest cooking with great wines.


Keize Mumba


Keize previously occupied the role of Assistant Sommelier at Azure Restaurant and 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa before joining Grub & Vine. Keize has completed his WSET levels 1, 2 and 3, and is currently studying towards his Level 4 Diploma.


Givemore Dausi

Sous Chef

Givemore started his career at La Mouette where he quickly progressed from commis chef to senior CDP over the course of 4 years. He joined the Grub & Vine team in February 2019 becoming Sous chef after 9 months. He works closely with Chef Matt developing our menu, keeping dishes seasonal and fresh!


Ibrahim Chikwiti

Floor Manager

Ibrahim joined the team as a waiter in December 2018 and has worked his way up to Floor Manager in November 2021. You can spot him on the floor conducting the service with his charm!


The Blue Room

The Blue Room at Grub & Vine is our live music and cocktail lounge that pays homage to the soulful sounds of jazz and the blues. A collaborative venture between Grub & Vine's Chef Patron Matt Manning and well-known jazz artist Buddy Wells, the lounge also sports a state-of-the-art recording studio, where you'll catch musicians in action from time to time.

The Blue Room is open for lunch from Monday - Friday, brunch on Saturdays and tapas and cocktails at night.

Went to Grub and Vine for lunch on our last day in Cape Town. An outstanding meal great wine list and lovely staff. Matt Manning and his small team produce seasonal cuisine with flawless classical French technique. The salt baked celeriac and roasted apple was a highlight, fish perfectly also. The menu is tightly put together and carefully judged. The perfect French bistro on Bree Street!

Well worth the climb up a steep set of stairs. Situated in Cape Town city centre, overlooking trendy Bree street, Grub & Vine has an exciting menu with attention to detail. Presentation of food is beautiful, flavours well balanced and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Excellent background music, thoroughly enjoyed being a guest in this restaurant . A very modern restaurant with good old fashioned heart.


Charming 1st floor bistro overlooking Bree St. The place was buzzing, the service seamless and we were able to get on and enjoy the grub and chat. There was a little theatre, nice presentation and plenty of flavour in the dishes, and a nice hello/dish intro from Chef Matt to boot.

Grub & Vine is the “best little bistro” in ages! I have just had one of the best meals i have had in ages. And to make it even better, the staff are amazing - they are fun, friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. They know the product, they have tasted and tested the meals and the wines and can speak with experience and authority. Matt has created a menu that is “simple” in the best possible way. Each dish is an exceptional experience which raises the standard of widely offered “standard menu items”...with a subtle (yet significant) twist...the watermelon with the tuna is a flavor delight. Quite possibly the best Pork Belly I have had. Lamb shoulder that is so good it should be framed and hung in a gallery...but it doesn’t last long enough on your plate to even complete that thought. A risotto that is a perfect serving of creamy heaven... As you can see...I must do...must eat experience. Oh, and a spectacular 12yr old chenin blanc (perfect) and a honey smooth Noble Late Harvest with coffee...no more words Thank you Matt and team...

Dining Areas

When booking at Grub & Vine, you’ll have a choice of two dining areas. In Grub & Vine's main dining room you can expect gorgeous views of the city in a contemporary setting with a vibey, buzzing atmosphere.

The Green Room is Grub & Vine’s second dining room, situated away from the hustle & bustle of the main dining area. Aptly named for its greenery and garden-inspired décor, the Green Room is ideal for romantic date nights and intimate gatherings, and has a small outdoor courtyard and private bar. The Blue Room is our live jazz & cocktail lounge located on the ground floor of the building. Open for lunch and for live music in the evenings, you can choose to join us for dinner or just cocktails and tapas while you enjoy some live music by some of the top Jazz, Blues and Soul artists in the country.

Dietary Requirements

At Grub & Vine we offer a small, seasonal menu. If you have any dietary requirements, please inform us at the time of your booking and it will be our pleasure to accommodate you.

Booking Policy
For dinner reservations we require a deposit of R150pp to secure your table which is off set against your final bill. Should you wish to cancel your booking you must do so 48 hours prior to your reservation, otherwise we regret that your deposit will not be refunded. 

Any changes to the number of guests should be communicated to Grub & Vine at least 24 hours ahead of the booking.

12% service charge will be added to your final bill.

Bookings are essential to avoid disappointment.
